She wandered the shores of the north shore during a time of true evolution. Being the only female in bikini with tropical oil and camera gear she was able to position herself capturing some of the most unique perspectives and characters of the North Shore. I had always heard and knew about her and one day I made contact. The next day I drove to her home in Honolulu aka town and we sat and talked and talked as time passed. Her stories are so infectious as she traveled everywhere risking her life and sometimes gear in places like Bali. One of the stories that really made me laugh was the instant decision one day when Jeff Hakman said, "hey lets go to Australia, I need to have a meeting with some guys who have bathing suit trunk company. Jeff Hakman, Rory Russell, Shirley and one of her girlfriends all jumped on a plane and upon arriving to Austraiia they were all greeted at the airport and she was shocked how so many people had heard of her as a Photographer. The next day, Jeff had his meeting as well as both he and Rory competed in the BELLS contest where Jeff won. This journey was not only historic and special but also the beginning of QUIKSILVER.
I am so honored to get to know her and call her my friend. This is SHIRLEY ROGERS
